Sizing-Up The Perfect Dumpster for The Job

When researching the right dumpster for your upcoming project, the most important consideration is predicting the type of debris that will be generated, and the amount of total material that you will need to have removed. The waste management industry classifies roll-off dumpster sizes by measurement in cubic yards, and the Dumpster Rental Company Burlington provides containers in three key sizes to effectively address the majority of the needs we see among professionals and private residents in and around the city of Burlington: 10-yards, 20-yards, 30-yards, and 40-yards. What follows below are some additional specifics on these roll-off container sizes, along with a quick reference guide of some of their common uses:

10-Yard Dumpsters

These dumpsters are commonly rented for kitchen and bathroom renovation and remodeling projects, as well as instances where our customers have small to medium scale clean-up projects involving attics, garages, and basements.

20-Yard Dumpsters

These containers have twice the volume capacity of their 10-yard counterparts, and we commonly see them used for slightly bigger remodeling and clean-up projects such as carpet or floor replacements and removals, or deck repairs and replacements.

30-Yard Dumpsters

Our second largest available size, it is commonplace to see the 30-yard roll-off dumpster put to work in support of medium to large-sized construction projects and roofing replacements on small or mid-sized houses. If you are looking to build a new addition onto your home or office, or if you are constructing a new house from scratch, then you will require a container of this size, at a minimum. In some cases, you may require more than one dumpster, but don’t you worry, as we manage a perpetual inventory so that we’re always in the right position to be responsive in satisfying the needs of our loyal customers.

40-Yard Dumpsters

This is the Big Kahuna! These dumpsters are usually reserved to address some of the largest and most complex construction and waste management challenges you’ll see out there on the roadside. General Contractors, Commercial Construction Contractors, and Demolition Contractors rely on our 40-yarders dumpsters because they can hold and transport thousands of pounds of waste at a time for quick disposal.

Fun Facts You May Not Have Known About Burlington, VT

It was established as part of the New Hampshire Grants, which colonial governor Benning Wentworth doled out beginning in 1749 as a way to alleviate overcrowding in Massachusetts and Connecticut. The Burlington grant recipients, which included 64 families, began settling the area in 1763 but were interrupted by the outbreak of the Revolutionary War.

Nobody’s really sure where the name came from. One theory holds that Wentworth named the town after Richard Boyle, the 3rd Earl of Burlington, as a way to gain favor from the powerful Englishman. Another holds that it was named for the wealthy Burling family, who owned land throughout New York.

One of the first naval battles of the Revolutionary War took place nearby on Lake Champlain. The Battle of Valcour Island pitted a colonial force of 15 ships, led by none other than Benedict Arnold, against 25 British ships. The outgunned Americans were defeated, but their resistance stalled the British expansion into the Hudson Valley. If Arnold had died during that skirmish, historians believe, he likely would be considered a war hero.

Burlington was home to Ethan Allen, a folk hero credited by many as the father of Vermont. Born in Connecticut, Allen and his Green Mountain Boys defended land established by the New Hampshire Grants against competing claims from New Yorkers. In 1775, Allen and his militia captured Fort Ticonderoga from the British, securing a decisive early victory in the American Revolution. A fierce fighter and leader, Allen was a philosopher and a published author, to boot.

During the War of 1812, Burlington served as a base for nearly 4000 U.S. troops. The influx strained the city’s resources and increased tensions between soldiers and citizens. After town officials arrested several soldiers on charges of theft, a band of their comrades marched on the jail and freed them.

The Dumpster Rental Process

Now that you’ve identified your need for a dumpster rental, there are three simple steps that you will want to follow.

The first is gathering the information you need so that we can provide you with a price quote. For example, we need to know the type of waste material you will be putting in the container (also referred to as a “debris box”), and how much material there will be. Through our brief discussion together we can help make a  recommendation on the most appropriate size, and accurately estimate how many times we’ll be hauling it away from the site. (Whenever uncertainty exists with respect to the appropriate size of debris-box for your project, we usually recommended the larger size to avoid needing to rent two containers if the first turns out not to be large enough.

The second step is to give some thought to specific questions you may wish to ask us to help make sure that everything goes smoothly with your project, and that you are satisfied.

The third step is picking a good location where the container will be placed and properly preparing the site to make certain your project runs efficiently, and to avoid any potential damage to your property.
